Got it!

Found it by accident and indeed, I missed something important which I shouldn't have. I do not really understand it, though.

Wildcards and Fuzzy Search do not work together! Try to explain that to a user *sigh*
So basically Fuzzy Search is not "fuzzy" enough to find partial matches. So if you just add a wildcard, it won't work either. You have to untick "Fuzzy Search" AND add a wildcard to find partial matches.
